Track and Field

Spring 2018


We are currently at capacity and not accepting new registrations. Thank you to everyone who registered - we are looking forward to an exciting season!

The Track and Field program from Dulles Youth Sports will run from before spring break in March to the end of May. Practices will be twice a week at Legacy or Mercer and typical practice length will be one hour. Our goal is to offer two options for participants:

Junior Track


A program geared for younger runners for grades 1st to 3rd. Runners will attend one practice a week and the focus will be on running, sprinting, and relays. An introduction to jumping will also be included. Field events and hurdles will not be a focus. Junior Track will meet once a week at Legacy Elementary only.

Track and Field


The Track and Field program will be for grades 4 to 8. We will provide weekly focus areas where we spend a portion of the practice introducing athletes to each event. 

  • Short distances - 50, 100, 200, and 400 meters
  • Middle distances - 800, 1500 meters
  • Long distance - 3000 meters
  • Relays - 4x100, 4x400
  • Hurdles - 100, 400 meters
  • Jumps - Introduction to long jump and high jump
  • Field events - shotput, discus, javelin

In-house meets or extended practices will be held at a Rock Ridge High School on Saturday afternoons and will focus on the events covered in practice. There will be multiple in-house meets and one to two regional meets tentatively included as part of the registration fee. The Junior Track athletes will participate in a single in-house meet at the end of the season.

Full details on meets and practices will be communicated directly to the team rather than posted to the web site.

We need volunteers! No experience is necessary. Please email if you are interested. Volunteering can be as simple as helping with practice or the meets. If you have any experience with track and field, consider volunteering as a coach! It is a great way to get in shape and participate in the community.
